Mike Muranetz was very through in assisting us find the right house as first time home buyers.  Working from our list of desires and our budget he showed us in excess of 20 houses before taking us to a surprise home that he had found and thought would be right for us, and it was. He walked my wife and I through the whole process and helped us navigate the whole process and made the entire experience...

We were very pleased with Mike's efforts with the sale of our house. Our house was sold within three months in a slow market by his hard work. Since we have all been members of the Military, it seemed like he was part of our family and wanted the best for us. We're very glad we had him representing our interests and would sincerely recommend him to others. I hope he will still...

Alternatives to Traditional Garage Sales in Edmonton

Do you have stuff in your home that you need to sell? Perhaps you have some suits or dresses that no longer fit, an older living room set that you've just had replaced, or a vinyl record collection you've been hanging onto for years and years. Of course, this is excellent preparation for readying your home to sell and before you bring in a home stager.
If a traditional garage sale is not an option for you (i.e. apartment condo living), there are other ways to sell those items.
Old Strathcona Farmers Market in Edmonton buy & sell of goods imageFor example, you could rent a stall for the weekend at a local flea market/ farmers market like Old Strathcona Farmers' Market or St. Albert Farmers’ Market (yes, there are others). This is relatively inexpensive and can be a fun activity for the whole family. Another option is to advertise in your local community newspaper. Advertising rates in local publications like Edmonton Examiner are often much lower than in major newspapers like the Edmonton Journal or Edmonton Sun.

You can also advertise on the internet. There are several Using free internet advertising to sell your excess stuff before selling your Edmonton home imagewebsites, such as (not very popular in Edmonton & (VERY popular in Edmonton) where you can advertise for free. Heck, if you want to declutter/down size, you may as well make money at it.

15-Point Moving Day Checklist

Whenever you are moving during the winter season or maybe a little further down the road, I highly recommend the following 15-point checklist to help you complete your Edmonton move in a stress free way:

  1. Double check all closets, drawers & Packing boxes to move from or to your Edmonton home imageshelves in addition to the attic and garage to unsure they are empty.
  2. Carry important documents, money and jewellery with you.
  3. Pack toys, games books for the kids to keep them busy during the move.
  4. Remember to pack a box of basics that you may need on the move in day (hand tools, paper products, all purpose household cleaners, etc). Be sure to have them loaded last so they will be available first at your new home.
  5. Don't pack paint, bleach, gas cans or inflammables. It's against the law for movers to transport these combustible materials.Loading boxes on a hand cart for moving to or from your Edmonton home image
  6. Use strong boxes & containers which can be secured tightly. Purchase special boxes for dishes, wardrobes and other special items.

  7. Pack audio-video equipment in their original boxes. Label cables and tighten transit screws. Before removing cables, take pictures of the back of the unit so you can hook everything back up the same way. If removing screws, tape them to the objections they were removed from.
  8. Avoid loading more than 50 lbs (23 kg) into one box. Your movers & their backs will thank you!
  9. Label each box and indicate the following: which room it should go in, whether it's fragile and if it should be loaded last so it can be unloaded first.
  10. Cushion contents with packing materials such as bubble wrap, newspaper or paper towel. Save room by using towels and blankets to wrap fragile items.
  11. Pack books tightly on end in small boxes. If they are musty smelling, sprinkle talcum powder between the pages and wrap the books before packing. Leave them stored for a couple of months to eliminate the smell.Do not pack the kids from or to your Edmonton home image
  12. Have rugs & draperies cleaned before moving and leave them in wrappings for the move.
  13. Pack medicines in plastic reusable zipper storage bags or leak proof containers.
  14. Check the weather forecast for your move day. If it's going to be hot, be sure to have a cooler with lots of bottled water and sports drinks on ice. Don't forget the movers as they also get thirsty plus they are handling your stuff. They will really appreciate it.
  15. Call your moving company the day before your move to get a contact number for the crew in case you need to contact them en route. Give your mover your cell number & be sure it's fully charged the night before your  moving day.

Hopefully, these tips will help with "The Big Day" for a stress free move. If you have anything to add, please let me know as I always like to get more ideas.
